Who Needs This Course?

This Scope Update course is required for Instructor Trainers, Instructors, First Responders (FR), and Emergency Medical Responders (EMR) in British Columbia who are currently practicing or teaching under the Emergency Medical Assistant Licensing Board (EMALB).

If you hold a valid FR or EMR certification, you must complete this course to maintain compliance with BC’s updated scope of practice (Ministerial Order 292).

Course Overview

Our blended learning program has been approved by the EMALB and fully satisfies the educational requirements for the updated FR and EMR scope of practice.

Upon successful completion, participants will be granted the EMALB authorization required to practice at the new scope level.

Course Format:

  • Online Learning: Approx. 8 hours

  • In-Class Skills Training: 16 hours


Important Information

  • All online modules must be completed before attending the in-person session.
  • Learners must provide their online completion certificate (printed or emailed) to their Training Partner/Instructor.
  • Proof of valid FR or EMR certification is required before class begins.
