Stay current, confident, and compliant with Provincial Fire and Safety’s Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Recertification Course.
This focused 40-hour program is designed for currently certified (or recently expired) EMRs who need to renew their certification and maintain licensing requirements in British Columbia.
This recertification course is intended for individuals who currently hold a valid — or recently expired (within grace period) — EMR certification and wish to renew their credentials for another 3 years.
The program includes the BC EMALB Scope of Practice Schedule 1 & 2 update, which is required for licensing through BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) and many Fire Services departments.
Provincial Fire and Safety provides 40 hours of concentrated classroom review and hands-on practical training to refresh core competencies and update participants on current protocols and standards.

BC EMALB Scope of Practice Schedule 1 & 2 Updates
This course is ideal for:
Individuals with a valid or recently expired EMR certification
Licensed EMRs needing to maintain EMALB compliance
Firefighters and first responders
Remote and industrial medics
Community-based responders renewing Red Cross EMR credentials
Participants must provide:
Proof of a current or recently expired EMR certification (Red Cross or equivalent recognized by the Paramedic Association of Canada)
Prior completion of a full EMR course
Standard First Aid with CPR C (recommended)
To successfully recertify, participants must:
Attend 100% of the 40-hour course
Demonstrate all critical skills to required competency standards
Successfully complete two evaluated scenarios (1 trauma, 1 medical)
Achieve a minimum score of 75% on the written exam
Upon successful completion, participants will receive:
3-Year Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Recertification
BC EMALB Scope of Practice Schedule 1 & 2 Update Completion
Digital certificate issued upon course completion
